Michael Kovalchuk — Violin & Viola Pedagogue
Swiss Precision · European Expression
Born into a family of musicians spanning four generations, Michael Kovalchuk embodies a lifelong devotion to the art of string playing. A graduate of the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, he holds a Bachelor of Arts and two Master of Arts degrees in Concert Performance and Music Pedagogy, where he studied under Professor Alexander Gordon. His musical formation was further shaped through masterclasses with legendary artists including Michael Kugel, Ivry Gitlis, Roman Simovic, and Garth Knox — experiences that deeply influenced his distinctive approach to sound and interpretation.
Kovalchuk has appeared in solo, chamber, and orchestral performances across Europe and beyond, collaborating with ensembles such as the Chamber Orchestra and the Sinfonietta de Lausanne, and performing at venues including the KKL Lucerne, Philharmonie de Paris, Notre-Dame de Paris, the New World Center, and Victoria Hall.
A natural teacher, Michael began guiding students at the age of twelve and has never stopped. Today, he is recognized for uniting rigorous technique with expressive artistry — blending the precision of the Swiss tradition with the depth and emotion of the European school. He maintains a distinguished teaching practice with leading Swiss and international institutions, while mentoring a global community of violinists and violists through his online studio.
His pedagogical philosophy rests on clarity, refinement, and self-expression — nurturing each student's individual voice through disciplined mastery of tone, intonation, and musical imagination. It is a philosophy distilled in his guiding ethos:
